  • Kalbarr: The Schools and Communities Project

Kalbarr means "Together because of interest in each other" in the Kuku Yalanji language

In the spirit of Reconciliation, the Kalbarr Schools and Communities Project aims to link primary schools in the Maribyrnong City Council (MCC) in Victoria with remote and regional First Nations’ communities across Australia.

The Project aims to foster the relationship between schools in the MCC and assist them in raising awareness on the health and literacy gaps for First Nations communities. With the support of Books n Boots, the schools will organise a series of book drives and deliver the books to regional and remote First Nations’ Communities.

The Project aims to connect both the schools and remote communities in the areas of education, friendship and culture and for this connection to continue once the project concludes.

The project has been kindly supported by the Maribyrnong City Council's large Community Grants Program.

Books n Boots would like to acknowledge the traditional custodians of the land on which we live, work, and learn. We would like to pay respect to elders past, present, and emerging and recognise that sovereignty has never been ceded.

It always was and always will be Aboriginal land
