Chief Operating Officer, based in Naarm (8 month contract, part time)
Organisation Description:
At Books n Boots, we aim to deliver services that support good health, wellbeing, and the happiness of First Nations children across Australia. We strive to level inequalities in health and education through our programs; the Tiny Treasures project, one on one tutoring, and early intervention cultural programs.

About the Tiny Treasures Programme
The Tiny Treasures Programme facilitates the provision of pre-loved and new books to remote, regional and urban primary school-age children in Australia. Through school book drives and private donations, Tiny Treasures seek and collect children's picture books throughout the year and re-distribute the books to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities nationally.
The Program currently services 75 First Nations communities.
About the Aunty Eleanor Harding Tutoring Programme
The Aunty Eleanor Harding Tutoring Program offers personalised, one-on-one learning support to First Nations primary school-aged students. This 45-minute tutoring session is tailored to each student's unique needs, ensuring they receive the focused attention they deserve.
About the Role
This contracted role of Chief Operating Officer is being funded with the generous grants from the RM Ansett Trust and the The Truby and Florence Williams Trust, and the support of State Equity.
Booksnboots is seeking, through this role to establish Hubs in the States and Territories from which we receive a high demand.
This role is initially for an eight- month period with a view to extension of the position if funding is secured. This will be a key priority for the Board and the Chief Operating Officer.
The Chief Operating Officer is a key role responsible for the development, and coordination of Booksnboots Incorporated. This role involves the following;
- leading the development of Booksnboots Hubs in the Northern Territory, Western Australia, and South Australia. This involves identifying and supporting volunteers, identifying potential Storage space opportunities, and linking in schools and potential sponsors in the above States and Territories.
- Managing the current Tiny Treasures Program.
- collaborating closely with the Board, as well as volunteers
- Developing relationships with First Nations community stakeholders
- Seeking ongoing sponsorship for Booksnboots activities.
- Establish potential partnerships with interested schools and Early Childhood Centres
- The development of a Volunteer Recruitment Strategy
- Managing the Storage space in Braybrook, Melbourne
- Seeking financial support for the development and coordination of The Aunty Eleanor Tutoring Program.
Your duties will include:
- Coordinating/planning meetings with relevant stakeholders in the Northern Territory, Western Australia, and South Australia with a view to the establishment of interstate Hubs.
- Visiting (at least once,) Western Australia, The Northern Territory and South Australia to progress the establishment of Booksnboots Hubs.
- Coordinating the logistics of freight pick-ups and deliveries
- Coordinating volunteers
- Managing the Booksnboots budget with the book -keeper and Treasurer.
- Writing grants.
- Seeking sponsorship for storage and administration
- Develop interstate volunteer recruitment strategy.
- Providing monthly reports to the Board representatives responsible for the Project
- Maintenance of social media presence on Instagram and Facebook
Job Requirements:
About You
To be successfully considered for this role, you will possess the following skills and experience:
Selection Criteria
- At least five years’ experience in a leadership position.
- Demonstrated excellent problem-solving skills
- Well-developed interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain strong links across the First Nations and education sectors.
- Logistics experience
- Computer skills and experience in Microsoft applications.
- A demonstrated understanding of state and local First Nations communities challenges and aspirations.
- Microsoft Office Suite intermediate skills.
- High level of reliability and professional conduct.
- A Demonstrated capacity to work autonomously and prioritise competing demands.
- Excellent time management skills:
Desirable:
- Experience in recruitment and selection and staff development.
- Experience working in a national position.
- A tertiary degree in Business Management or MBA
